The Transfusion Medicine Department started initially as State Blood Bank. It was established in 1942 as a blood bank in the premises of CSMMU (Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University) erstwile KGMC. With passage of time the blood donation policy changed from professional to replacement & voluntary. The blood bank initially was known as the State blood bank as it could supply blood to all over the state of U.P.
